The Sunraysia Mallee
Economic Development Board sponsors a number of organisations and projects that provide benefit to the region. All organisations requesting sponsorship from the Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board must complete a Sponsorship Application Form and demonstrate how the project aligns with the economic drivers listed in the SMEDB Strategic Plan.

$2,800 - Business Excellence Awards
The Sunraysia Mallee Economic
Development Board has sponsored the Powercor/Prime Business
Excellence Awards in the past. In 2007 SMEDB partnered with Mildura Tourism to deliver the awards and have made a start up contribution to the BEA. The awards provide businesses within the
region with an opportunity to look objectively at their business
and identify how they measure their successes.

$10,000 cash and in kind - Mildura
Wines
SMEDB contribution
to the Mildura Wines group as part of the wine cluster program.
The initial outcome included the development of a regional
winery and cellar door map.

$15,000 - Grow Your Business
strategic marketing training
Secured government funding of $15,000 to assist ten local
businesses to further develop marketing and communication
strategies through participation in a series of workshops,
group and individual meetings over a three month period.
$10,000 - Riverhealth Conference
SMEDB was a silver sponsor
of the Riverhealth Conference which highlighted to school children
the importance of the environment and environmental issues
facing the Mildura region.
$5,000 - Chefs of the Murray
The Chefs of the Murray
event was held during Mildura Tourism week in May 2006 and 2007.
$2,500 - Siimon Reynolds Marketing Seminar
In conjunction with
the Sunraysia Area Consultative Committee and Mildura Tourism,
SMEDB supported Siimon Reynolds’ visit to Mildura for
Tourism Week in May 2006. Siimon’s presentation to small businesses
on effective marketing strategies was both interesting and
valuable. SMEDB also participated in the Mildura Tourism Week
Industry Expo with a stand highlighting the services provided
and economic data available.

SMEDB have sponsored the Grow Mildura
horticulture pavilion at the 2006 and 2007 Mildura Shows.
$1,000 - Sunraysia Farmers’ Market
SMEDB is a founding
sponsor of the Sunraysia Farmers’ Market which has been
growing since the first market in December 2005. Sunraysia
Farmers’ Markets are held on the first and third Saturday
of the month from 8am – 12 noon at the Australian Inland
Botanical Gardens, River Road, Mourquong.

Young Professionals’ Network
SMEDB sees attracting
and retaining young professionals in the area as a priority
and has provided support to the recently formed Mildura Young
Professionals’ Network (MYPN) in the form of governance
training and financial assistance to initiate the network.
SMEDB encourages employers and young professionals
to find out more about the network and their goals to connect,
learn and grow through social networking and professional development.

SMEDB offered
a donation in lieu of posting Christmas cards in 2006 and 2007 as Christmas
greetings were sent by email.

SMEDB offered a donation in lieu
of postage for sending Christmas cards in 2005 as emails were
sent instead.
$500 - Chefs of the Future Cooking Competition
SMEDB is
a supporter of the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE’s Chefs
of the Future Cooking Competition which was held in August.
The competition was hosted by John and Justine from Greedy
Goose of My Restaurant Rules fame. The Mildura region has a
skills shortage in the hospitality industry, and this competition
is about increasing the profile of cooking as a profession
and encouraging apprentices to be the best in their field.

$300 - 2007 VET in Schools Student Excellence Awards
SMEDB sponsored the Student of the Year category to recognise the most outstanding student of 2007.

Sponsorship of the
Sunraysia Young Leaders Forum.
Alternative Technologies Association (Sunraysia branch)
SMEDB
has sponsored seminars on solar power and water that the association
has conducted.
Australia Needs Skills
Cathy Violi attended the expo in Melbourne
with Mildura Rural City Council’s Coordinator
Skilled Migration Strategy in 2006
to promote the opportunities and facilities available in the
region to international students and temporary visa holders
residing in metropolitan Melbourne.
Regional Transport Forum
SMEDB supported the Regional Transport
Forum where development strategies and action plans were produced
to move the local transport industry forward.
