Cluster
Projects
The Mildura region currently has two cluster projects
in operation with funding from the Victorian Government to achieve
marketing, education and training outcomes for the wine industry
and the transport industry.
Mildura Wines Cluster
The Victorian Government has provided two rounds
of funding for the Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board to
drive the Mildura Wines Cluster Project; firstly $50,000 (2005/2006)
then $44,000 (2007/2008). Mildura Wines (Mildura Murray Darling Wine
Industry Association) will build on the excellent results that the
cluster had produced in boosting the region’s wine industry
to date. A number of fantastic marketing tools and projects have
been developed such as the Wine Map, Mildura Wines web site , regional
wine boxes, an education and training flyer , monthly newsletters
, strategic plan, representation at Wine Australia 2006 and Vintage
2010, and Mildura Wines branding.
Mildura Wines aims to develop awareness
and improve the perception of the wines from the Mildura Murray Darling
region. Mildura Wines aims not only to contribute to the growth of
the wine industry but to the economy of the entire region.
The Mildura
Murray Darling Wine Industry Association will establish an identity
for Mildura Wines and facilitate the development and recognition
of the Murray Darling as an innovative and sustainable Wine Region.

Transport Cluster
The Mildura Transport and Logistics Cluster (MTaLC) is an action group, focussing on the concerns of the transport and logistics industry within the Mildura region, to research and develop strategies and initiatives that can be implemented to resolve those issues.
Mildura is in a key strategic position to be developed into a regional transport and logistics hub. Mildura is ideally situated to develop a regional intermodal terminal and freight park. To do this, collaboration with and within industry is essential as is the joint partnerships of local, state and federal government and the transport and logistics sector.
The cluster has been formed though joint funding from the Regional Innovation Clusters Program, OTTE initiative funding through Sunraysia Institute of TAFE, support from Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board and local industry.
The group has identified four key areas of concern with the region and industry:
- Image
- Skills Shortage
- Cross Border Anomalies
- Infrastructure development
The cluster is adding to the region sustainability of the local economy by looking into ways to engage the local farmers, to assist in both the industry skills shortage and their survival on the farm.
