Board Project Finalist at National Awards
18 September 2008
The Sunraysia Mallee Economic Development Board (SMEDB) is a finalist in the National Awards for Economic Development Excellence with the China Program.
The China Program was entered in the Strategic Economic Development National category and has demonstrated a holistic, realistic, sustainable and measurable approach to strategic economic development planning.
The awards will be presented at the National Economic Development Australia Conference in Brisbane on Wednesday 8 October which Andrew Millen, SMEDB CEO, will be attending.
Mr Millen said “The China Program and the approach that SMEDB has taken is being adopted by other regions and by working in partnership with them we are able to reduce duplication and achieve greater outcomes.”
The China Program is a suite of projects focusing on trade, investment, education, labour, relationship building and tourism in Yunnan Province, south west China.
Instead of searching for opportunities in the competitive large cities, efforts are targeted on Yunnan Province. This provides a focus for the program in the creation of key relationships crucial to doing business, and a manageable demand for products and services from the Mildura region.
