Delegation to China Kunming Import & Export Commodities Fair

The Board and a number of local businesses have exhibited wine, dried fruit, tourism, education, salt and more at the Fair for the past five years. The delegations have enabled businesses to meet with officials and trade personnel with the ultimate aim of getting local
produce and products exported to China.

Yunnan Province
The Yunnan Province, called Dian for short, is situated in the South-Western part of the People’s Republic of China. It is a mountainous province with a varied altitude of 76 metres to 7,500 metres, a mild climate all year (15-25 C), adequate rainfall, long frost-free periods and plenty of sunshine.

Yunnan Province accounts for 4.1% of the total land area of China, which makes it the 8th largest province in China. There are 8 municipalities and 8 autonomous prefectures in the province. The province has a population of 44 million with Kunming being its capital city (also known as the Spring City).

Yunnan Province is endlessly fascinating with a multiplicity of cultures which has endowed the province with a rich heritage that it shares with all who come and visit. It has mountain ranges and glaciers that are snow capped all year round, deep virgin forests, lakes and hot springs, alpine landscapes, precipitous valleys, beautiful farmlands, mountain rivers and valley streams and floral splendor that blooms throughout the year.

Yunnan is adjacent to Thailand, Cambodia, Bangladesh and India.

In 2004, the population of Yunnan Province was 44 million, with one third of the population being made up of ethnic minorities. This makes it the most culturally diverse province in China.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
In 2004, GDP of Yunnan Province reached 296 billion RMB yuan ($50 billion $AUS), an increase of 11.5% over the previous year and 2.9% higher than that of the previous year, representing the fastest growth rate since 1995.

GDP per capita in 2004 stood at 6,733 RMB yuan ($1,132 AUD). Annual per capita disposable income for urban residents was 8,870 RMB yuan ($1,491 AUD) and for farmers 1,864 RMB yuan ($313 AUD).
