Best Bottlers
Relocating for success
Mildura’s agricultural strengths including 23% of Australia’s wine crush, central location to wine growing regions and excellent transport networks have been factors in the success of the establishment of Best Bottlers in north west Victoria.
Best Bottlers’ founders, Ron Treffene and Maurice Dean, saw an opportunity to begin a contract bottling company targeting the wine industry in Mildura in 2001. This opportunity was further assisted after purchasing the bottling assets of Normans Wines located in Northcote, Melbourne.
Best Bottlers entered the contract bottling market at the Northcote site with a seamless transition and continued to service Normans Wines’ existing customers without any disruption to their respective businesses.
During this transition period, Best Bottlers began the construction of a purpose-built facility in Mildura. Once the Mildura facility was operational, the Northcote site was closed and relocated to complement the new bottling line installed at Mildura.
Key personnel, including Stuart Haby, Normans Wines’ experienced bottling winemaker, also relocated to Mildura to carry on the high level of service the company was known for. The first bottle was packed off the line in the new facility in August 2002.
Best Bottlers has emerged as a steadily growing company, now twice its original size and offering state of the art facilities and a range of services including bottling, labelling, wine storage and distribution.
Ron Treffene, CEO commented “Best Bottlers have just completed our strongest six months of bottling since starting five years ago. This has continued into January 2007 with February and March also heavily committed.”
